A nationwide program for identification of diabetic foot will be carried out on November 13, said Reza Qalamqash, head of the Healthy Foot Society. “The program will be free for all diabetics, and includes creating a medical file, preliminary examinations, a two-dimensional scan, and an educational class, after which they will be issued a foot health identification card,” he said, IRNA reported. The program is on the occasion of World Diabetes Day (November 14). There are 7 million diabetics in Iran, of which 500,000 to one million suffer from foot ulcers.

“Treating foot ulcers cost $3000-$5,000, while it is preventable with initial treatment that costs only a few dollars,” Qalamqash said.
