The number of single men of marriageable age is rising in the country, said Ali Akbar Mahzoun, director general of the National Civil Registration Organization’s Office for Population Statistics and Information. Prior to 2011, the number of women of marriage age was significantly higher than men, IRNA quoted him as saying. At present, there are 5.6 million single women in the country while the number of unmarried men is 5.5 million. In 2006, the figure was 5.2 million and 6.5 million for men and women, respectively.
