Nearly nine million people living in city fringes and informal settlements have been covered by basic health services for the first time in the country. Two million more will have access to health facilities by the end of the current year (March 20, 2016), said Health Minister Hassan Ghazizadeh Hashemi.

“We are planning to establish one health center for every 15,000 people who live in the outlying areas. One physician and several health experts are employed at each health facility,” IRNA quoted him as saying. Health costs have risen drastically over the years and the government says it is doing all it can to help provide basic health/medical services to the lower strata of the society, especially in the small towns and rural areas.
