The pilot phase of the Social Security Organization’s plan to replace insurance booklets with smart cards has commenced in Yazd Province. “Under the project, the two basic insurers, Iran Health Insurance Organization (IHIO) and the SSO, will function under a unified system to avoid dispersion of services and tariffs,” said Taghi Nourbakhsh, head of the SSO, IRNA reported. The plan was approved by the Supreme Council of Insurance, and will require only a patient’s national ID number to track and view their health records or advise a new prescription. The SSO has 40 million members.
