Police confiscated 1.29 tons of narcotics in three separate operations in southeast Sistan-Baluchestan Province on Monday. Brigadier-General Hussein Rahimi, provincial police commander, said three vehicles were also seized and a smuggler arrested, IRNA reported. Police were patrolling the Zahdan-Nehbandan Road when they became suspicious of a Toyota with a damaged number plate. When they signaled the vehicle to stop, the driver changed direction and tried to escape. Due to over speeding he lost control and collided with the road guard rails, Rahimi said.  While the driver fled under the cover of darkness, however, police discovered 642 kg of opium and 121 kg of hashish hidden in the runaway vehicle. In another operation in Saravan County, police seized 366 kg of opium from a Toyota abandoned by drug traffickers. In a separate raid, 164 kg of opium was seized from a smuggler’s home in Mehrestan County.
