A program to screen unmarried people aged 15 to 25 years for genetic disorders will be implemented soon, said Majid Rezazadeh, head of the Social Welfare Organization’s Addiction Prevention and Treatment Office. Speaking on the sidelines of the genetic counseling and disability prevention confab held recently in Tehran, he said, “The pilot program will be implemented in the second half of the current year (started March 21) in the 31 provinces (one city in each province),” reports IRNA. About 50% of disabilities in Iran are caused by genetic disorders, he said.
