The government has so far allocated $3 million in compensation to those who suffered losses in the recent floods which hit the western provinces of the country, said Esmaeil Najjar, head of the Crisis Management Organization (CMO), on the sidelines of the meeting of the Supreme Council of the Provincial Disaster Management.

Most parts of the country are prone to flooding and earthquakes, he said, adding that annually 173 earthquakes over 4 on the Richter scale are registered in the country.

The meeting was held on Monday at CMO’s Tehran bureau, IRNA reported.

Flash floods killed at least seven people in the western regions on Thursday and damaged over 2,000 homes and business. Early estimates put losses in the range of $60 million.
