Gastric cancer is the deadliest among Iranians, said Esmaeil Akbari, head of the Cancer Research Center at Tehran’s Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences.“While breast cancer is the most common among women, stomach cancer is the most common for men, and also claims the largest number of lives among men and women every year,” he said at the Eighth Regional Conference of Cancer Control in West Asia held under the auspices of the Asian Pacific Organization for Cancer Prevention (APOCP) in Tehran.

There are 90,000 new cancer cases registered annually in Iran, and of this figure nearly 30,000 do not survive, Borna News Agency reported.

The three-day program at the prestigious center of higher learning provides a platform for presentation, discussion and planning in cancer prevention, including health promotion, diagnosis, treatment, management and survival.
