Five hectares has been allocated to the Bandar Abbas Islamic Azad University for the construction of technology parks to support knowledge-based companies and businesses in the field, said university chancellor Mehdi Baqeri. “The idea is to encourage scientific and research activities in the region as well as accelerate the process of applying science in practice,” he said, IRNA reported. The project will act as a link between inventors, investors and academia, and provide a platform to promote and support national technology production. Knowledge-based firms within universities will bring about a surge in local production and investment, commercialize science, and help reduce the university’s “dependency on tuition fee for sustenance,” Baqeri said.
