The divorce rate in the country surged by 9.3% in the first half of this year (started March 21) vis-à-vis the corresponding period last year, said Ali Akbar Mahzoon, head of Information, Statistics, and Immigration Office of the National Organization for Civil Registration. “One in every 2.8 marriages in Tehran ends in divorce at the moment, with 13.3% of divorces in less than a year of marital life,” he said, Mehr News Agency reported. Nationwide, one in every five marriages result in separation, mostly among men and women in the 25-29 age group.
