Traditional methods are currently used in farming herbal plants while it must incorporate modern technology, said Soheila Haqgoo, the head of quality control laboratories at the research center of the Food and Drug Administration.
“Strict policies must be laid down to supervise the process of cultivating medicinal plants that are, at some point, offered to the public as medicine,” she said, IRNA reported.
As per international regulations of the World Health Organization, the primary materials used to culture herbal plants must be identified and certified.
Noting that climatic conditions, location or products selected to grow medicinal herbs influence their quality, she urged the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad to cooperate with the FDA in regulating the cultivation of herbal plants.
