The first Comprehensive Tissue and Wound Healing Center will be established by the health and medicine department of the Iranian Academic Center for Education, Culture, and Research (ACECR).
“There are 4-5 million diabetics in the country, among whom 60,000 suffer from foot ulcers annually,” said Dr. Hossein Bakhto, head of the department, at a press conference for the second National Congress of Wound and Tissue Repair, ISNA reported.
The rate of amputation is about 35% for people with ulcers, and their treatment is costly, he said and proposed a specialized center to provide inclusive care to diabetics.
The congress will run till October 30 at Tehran’s Milad Hospital.
