A memorandum of understanding to build West Asia’s first nuclear hospital was signed by authorities from the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, Health Ministry and Tehran Municipality in a meeting on Monday. The agreement was signed by AEOI head Ali Akbar Salehi, Health Minister Hassan Hashemi and Tehran Mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, IRNA reported. The 1,000-bed hospital to be built in Tehran’s Velayat Park will use nuclear technology and science and radio-drugs for diagnosis and treatment. Salehi had earlier stated that the hospital would offer specialized services in application of radiation therapy. “The initial map of the building is ready and we are working out the details,” he said, adding that the hospital would function as the region’s nuclear medicine hub. The $300 million (10 trillion rials) project will be financed jointly by the AEOI and a private bank.
