Automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) system will be soon launched throughout the country. The ANPR is a smart surveillance system for automatic identification and recording of vehicle number plate. They will be installed at the entrance and exit doors of parking, residential complexes and various important organizations.
The knowledge-based Mobtakeran Namavar Aria Company will soon launch the system.
According to company head, Aliakbar Hosseini, the system’s hardware and software is capable of connecting to all installed analogue cameras in the country, Borna News Agency reported.
The mass surveillance system uses existing closed-circuit television or road surveillance cameras specifically designed for the task. They are used globally as a method of electronic toll collection on pay-per-use roads and cataloging the movements of traffic or individuals.
Currently, it has been installed at the Isfahan bus parking station as well as in a few private parking lots. The smart system is programmed with advanced algorithms also known as OCR (optical character recognition) that retrieves information regarding vehicle plate numbers through converting image obtained from the installed cameras to text. The system registers the plate number and could help reclaim a vehicle’s past records and identification.
ANPR systems commonly use infrared lighting to allow the camera to take the picture at any time of the day.
