A specialized medical team from Germany is offering reconstructive and plastic surgery services to the country’s war veterans until October 20, said Iraj Arabi, director general of Bonyad Shahid (Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs).
“The medical team comprising three surgeons, an anesthesiologist, and a nurse and will be accompanied by an Iranian team to offer services to 30 Iranian veterans,” he said, IRNA reported.
The group will also visit Isfahan Province on Wednesday and examine veterans in the region.
Iran has over 540,000 war veterans, 320,000 of whom suffer from 20% disability. The remaining have higher rates of impairment. The 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war killed an estimated one million people on both sides.
