Many people believe that unemployment is the main cause of drug addiction in the country, but figures indicate that 53% of drug addicts are employed and “some of them even have government jobs,” said Kourosh Parand, deputy minister of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare. Also, many of them were employed before becoming victims of drug abuse, the Persian language newspaper ‘ Iran’ quoted him as saying. Currently, there are 1.3 million drug addicts in the country.
