More Hospital Beds by 2017

Nearly 100,000 beds will be provided to hospitals across the country by the end of the next Iranian year (March 20, 2017) said Amir Saki, director general of the Office for Physical Resources and Construction Affairs at the Health Ministry.  “While the government will fund 21,000 hospital beds, the remaining will be provided and financed by non-government agencies affiliated to the Health Ministry, including universities,” he said, IRNA reported. Iran is still a long way from the standard index for hospital beds per 1000 people as 60% of the existing beds are worn out and need to be replaced, Saki added, saying that this would require huge investments.
