FDA Bans Carbonated Drinks’ Import

The Food and Drug Administration has banned imports of carbonated drinks, according to its deputy head Dr. Soheil Eskandari. “The measure comes after the FDA prohibited import of juices with high sugar content last month as part of the FDA’s drive to ensure food safety,” he said, Borna News Agency reported. Currently, there are 156 carbonated drinks production units and 340 fruit juice companies operating across the country. The standard level of sugar intake for healthy people is less than 10% of daily energy, which equals 50 grams per day. The people should abide by this rule in their daily diet, he stressed.
