Construction of commercial, educational and residential buildings is not allowed in the vicinity of gasoline stations, said Rahmatollah Hafezi, chairman of the Health and Environment Commission, Tehran City Council. As per the comprehensive plan passed recently, the Tehran Municipality (TM) should determine suitable locations for new fuel stations and not grant building permits near existing petrol bunks. However, constructions continue to come up around the stations, ISNA reported.
Living near a petrol bunk can be a health hazard, Hafezi warned, adding that dangerous airborne organic compounds can travel as far as 100 meters from gas stations.
