In the last decade, single-child families are becoming common in Iran. At present, 33% of families have only one child, says Dr. Munes Sayyah, a member of the Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution. Parents tend to pamper their single-child in the standard way that most parents treat their first-born (with extra care and vigilance). Thus single-children are generally found to be more reliant on their parents and less independent, Borna News Agency quoted her as saying. Video games also take the place of playing with siblings for single-children, which has negative impact on their social skills development, she added.
