Cholera Case in Qom

A case of cholera was reported in the holy city of Qom. “An Iranian, who returned from Najaf city in Iraq was diagnosed with cholera after he sought medical care,” said deputy health minister Ali Akbar Sayyari, IRNA reported. Iraq’s Health Ministry said the number of cholera cases has exceeded 160 in its southern provinces due to the unsanitary water system.  Sayyari said people should protect themselves against cholera by following a few simple rules of good hygiene and safe food preparation. These include scrupulous hand washing before food preparation and eating, thorough cooking of food and its consumption while hot.
