Iran’s ranking improved on the Global Innovation Index compared to last year, said Mehdi Pakzad, managing director of the secretariat for the High Council for Science, Research, and Technology. “Last year, Iran ranked 120th among 143 countries, but stood 106th this year,” he said, IRNA reported. Over the last eight years, the GII has established itself as a leading reference on innovation, providing a tool for action for policymakers.

An annual publication it features a composite indicator that ranks countries/economies in terms of their innovation outputs. The GII surveys 143 economies around the world, using 81 indicators–to measure both their innovation capabilities and measurable results which go beyond the traditional measures of innovation such as the level of research and development.
