Annually, 30-50 new drugs are produced domestically and supplied in the market, said Dr. Rasoul Dinarvand, head of the Food and Drug Administration. “Currently, over 100 pharmaceutical companies are operating in the country and they produce 30-50 new drugs every year, including important medications that have the potential to earn $100 million if exported,” he said. Local production of drugs provide easy and fast access to medication for patients that would otherwise have to be imported at a high cost, he added, reports ISNA.
