Six million hectares of agricultural fields will be brought under wheat cultivation in autumn, of which 2.2 million hectares will be irrigated and 3.8 million hectares will be dry land cultivation dependent on natural rainfall, said Agricultural Jihad Ministry advisor Esmaeil Esfandiaripour. It is estimated that 12.9 million tons of wheat will be produced by the end of the current year (March 20, 2016), IRNA quoted him as saying. He said although wheat is grown in different climates, at present, 50% of domestic wheat crops are grown in cold regions in the western part of the country.
