Heavy rainfall on Friday in Tehran and other regions claimed at least 8 lives as rivers swelled, creating a flood-like situation in 11 provinces.

Four people lost their lives in Tochal village in Tehran’s Pakdasht county, while four others drowned in Fini River in Ruydar District of Khamir county in Hormozgan Province. “All the victims were near riverbanks,” said head of Relief and Rescue Unit of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, Nasser Charkhsaz. At least eight people are reported missing. Mudslides around the river banks in Tochal village caused road closure on Imam Reza Road south of Tehran, leaving a number of cars trapped.

A bridge was destroyed in Amol county in Mazandaran Province leaving passengers of 40 cars stranded.

Search and rescue teams from municipalities and the IRCS are in the affected regions and relief operations are underway in the flood-affected areas, reports IRNA.
