The number of CCTV cameras will increase 4.5 times under the traffic control project that started on September 11 and will run until February 23, said Traffic Police chief, General Taghi Mehri. “Currently there are 400 surveillance cameras in the country, and the number will increase to 1800,” he said, ISNA reported. He also pointed to a text messaging system by which travelers can report errant drivers to police. Undercover police will also randomly travel by public transport vehicles to inspect drivers’ performance.
