In the new school year (starts Sept. 23), stalls that provide healthy and nutritious snacks will be set up in schools to promote healthy diet among students, said Hassan Ziaoddini, health deputy at the Ministry of Education.

“Last year, 80% of schools abided by the regulation not to offer junk foods to students, and errant schools were warned,” he told ISNA.  Nearly 150 schools were directed to follow the healthy food regulation in the previous school year. The ministry plans to extend the scheme this year in cooperation with the Health Ministry.

The scheme seeks to address childhood obesity and diabetes among youngsters that is currently on the rise.
