Pregnancy before the age of 20 reduces the risk of developing breast cancer by 50%, says Prof. Mohammad Esmaeil Akbari, head of Iran Cancer Research Center affiliated to Tehran’s Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences. “However, getting pregnant after the age of 35 has no known influence on the development of the disease,” he said, at the 10th Scientific Congress of Iranian General Surgeons, the Persian language newspaper ‘Iran’ reported. Annually, around 90,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed in Iran, making the rate of prevalence to 145 in every 100,000.
