Two Iranian universities are in the list of top 500 universities in the world according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2015.
The ARWU is conducted by researchers at the Center for World-Class Universities of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The center has been focusing on the study of world-class universities for many years.
Tehran University ranks in the 201-300 range, a slight improvement over last year and Sharif University has made it to the list for the first time, coming in the 401-500 range, Khabaronline reports.
More than 1,200 universities around the world are ranked annually by ARWU based on six indicators, including the number of alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, highly cited researchers selected by Thomson Reuters, articles published in journals of Nature and Science, articles indexed in Science Citation Index, and per capita performance of a university. The best 500 are published in the ‘World-Class Universities’ book.
