Smart cards will be issued to all physically challenged people, whether they are supported by charitable foundations or covered by state insurance organizations.

The smart cards will have specific information on the services and data related to their disability, Minister of Cooperatives Ali Rabi’ie said recently.

Nearly 15% of the population or 11 million people have some form of handicap, including 3 million with severe disability.

About 25,000 disabled people and 13,000 female heads of households have been given jobs after necessary vocational training with funds provided by the Cooperative Development Fund, Rabi’ie said, IRNA reports.

He urged retailers and store owners to display and sell crafts and handmade products made by physically challenged people.

“As per the bill on additional facilities for the disabled, men marrying girls with disabilities will be exempted from military service temporarily for five years and are eligible for permanent exemption later.  He also pointed to another bill by which adoption of abandoned or orphaned children has been simplified. The adopted children will remain under the indirect supervision of social workers while being brought up in a family. The adoptee families will receive financial assistance from the SWO.
