An advanced MRI machine costing $2.2 million was installed at Imam Reza Hospital in Urumia, capital of West Azarbaijan Province, said Kamran Jamshidi, executive consultant at the Social Security Organization (SSO). MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) uses a magnetic field and pulses of radio wave energy to take pictures of organs and structures inside the body that cannot be seen by other imaging methods. It can be used to detect developmental anomalies, infections and damages in different parts of the body including brain, chest, abdomen and pelvis and blood vessels.
Jamshidi said the hospital would be able to provide medical services to neighboring countries as well, reports IRNA.
