Nearly 90% of the hospitals in the country are equipped with disinfectant devices for medical waste disposal. “Only 10% have flaws in waste treatment methods and they have been instructed to set right the deficiencies,” said Khosrow Sadeqniat, head of the Occupational Health Department at the Health Ministry. Most of the hospitals have installed autoclaves to disinfect medical waste, and some are using chemical methods of disinfection. Both methods are approved by the Health Ministry, IRNA quoted him as saying.
