Iran ranks 17th in world scientific rankings despite the ban on global scientific magazines and publications to publish outstanding Iranian research work due to the western sanctions, said Health Minister Hassan Hashemi. Scientific advancements received an impetus as government policies and programs encouraged development of knowledge and research, IRNA reported. In 575 state-run hospitals comprehensive healthcare is provided and substantial medical progress has been made in the fields of nanotechnology, cell therapy, and cognitive sciences, he added.
The only liver transplant center in the country, located in Shiraz Province, has carried out more than 600 successful surgeries.
