About 55% of parents become aware of their children’s addiction five years after they take their first dose of illegal drugs, said Hamid Sarami, director general of the Research Center at the Drug Control Headquarters. Nearly 21% of the students say they “feel emptiness in life,” 86% enjoy taking on “exciting or risky activities,” and 1.5% who have both the traits, have already turned to drug abuse, Sarami added. Disturbed family environment, lack of social skills and being shy or aggressive are among other risk factors which can lead to drug abuse, ISNA reported.
