The 9th International Congress on Challenges in Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, will be held at Mahak Hospital from September 16 to 18, said Mohammad Faranoush, associate professor, Iranian Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Society.

Sharing experiences and knowledge in the diagnosis and treatment of children suffering from blood cancer (leukemia) are the main issues to be addressed, reports ISNA.

Fifteen foreign specialists will attend the congress and around 1,000 candidates have registered for participation.

Local pediatricians, radiotherapists, surgeons, pathologists, pharmacists, general practitioners, oncologists and hematologists will be on the various scientific committees.

The congress will provide a platform to share global research and findings, with focus on bone marrow transplant, and introduce the world’s latest advancements in leukemia treatment.

Faranoush said medicines for leukemia are not produced domestically. However, there is no deficiency in medicine supply for blood cancers and chemotherapy treatment in the country.

Mahak Hospital and Rehabilitation Complex is a pediatric cancer research center run by Mahak Charity, a non-governmental organization in Tehran, dedicated to helping children with cancer.
