Smart cards will replace insurance booklets from September this year as per a bill approved by the Supreme Council of Insurance, said Taghi Nourbakhsh, head of the Social Security Organization (SSO). From now on, the two basic insurers, Iran Health Insurance Organization (IHIO) and the SSO, will function under a unified system “to avoid scattering of services.” At present, the SSO has covered 40 million people with 20% of the insurance premium provided by employers, 7% by employees and 3% by government, IRNA quoted him as saying.
