All physically challenged people will be issued an international ID card in the second half of the current Iranian year (started March 21), said Hossein Nahvinejad, deputy head of rehabilitation at the State Welfare Organization.

“The cards will enable access to facilities for the disabled, including legal exemptions, loans, half-priced air tickets, military service exemption, domestic and international transportation services, and participation in university entrance exam,” he said, reports ISNA. The plan has been piloted in Tehran province for 15,000 people. The cards are binding in and outside the country and contain information on the kind and level of disability.

Once the two-month pilot plan ends, the SWO will provide cards to every individual with a disability free of charge. Currently, 1.1 million people with disabilities are covered by the SWO and are eligible for the cards. Those not supported by the SWO, can also apply.
