Eleven people drowned in the Caspian Sea during the Eid al-Fitr holiday, including seven in Mazandaran and four in Gilan provinces, Iran’s Legal Medicine Organization said.

All the victims were swimming out of the declared safe zones, Alef News Agency reported.

The number of deaths due to drowning in the past year (ended March 20) was 98. The Caspian Sea in the north of Iran is the largest enclosed inland body of water in the world. Mazndaran and Gilan provinces lie along the southern coast.
