Infants and toddlers, who do not have identity documents and are uninsured, will now receive healthcare services free of charge.

Abandoned infants and children of migrants and refugees normally face legal obstacles to get birth certificates and national ID. Earlier, they were not covered by insurance of the State Welfare Organization.

Head of the SWO, Anoushiravan Mohseni Bandpei, said: “From now on as per a directive from Minister of Health Hassan Hashemi, all infants will receive free health services at national medical centers,” ISNA quoted him as saying.

On the increasing trend in social disorders, he said, “It enjoins the SWO to establish new consultation centers specialized in intervention and counseling services by social workers, sociologists and psychologists.”Statistics show that 60% of addicts are employed, suggesting that the reason for their addiction is not unemployment. Therefore they need counselling and training.”

He stressed the need for establishing training centers to organize and improve the plight of the socially vulnerable.

 Facilities for Disabled

Following the recent enactment on additional support to the disabled, the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare is responsible to provide insurance and the necessary facilities for the physically challenged through the SWO.

As per a recent MoU signed with the Mostazafan Foundation (for the oppressed and disabled) and the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, residential houses will be provided for families with more than two handicapped members, Mohseni Bandpei said.

The number of housing units for the disabled was fixed at 8000 units earlier, but was modified after the signing of the MoU to 11,000, with 8000 urban and 3000 suburban dwellings.

The residential units are expected to be ready by the end of 2017.
