The world’s oldest living person Susannah Mushatt Jones celebrated her 116th birthday on July 6. Jones is the third of 11 children and has outlived all her siblings.
The elderly lady was presented with a certificate proclaiming that she is now the world’s oldest living person, Euronews reported.
At 106 she told the New York City Housing Authority her key to longevity: “I never drink or smoke; I surround myself with love and positive energy and that’s the key to long life and happiness.”
Meanwhile, the world’s oldest man, a retired educator from Japan, has died at the age of 112 from kidney failure, reports AP.
Sakari Momoi was certified by Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest man in August 2014, when he was 111.
Another Japanese man, 112-year-old Yasutaro Koide of Nagoya, succeeds Momoi as the world’s oldest man, according to the Los Angeles-based Gerontology Research Group.
