Researchers at Isfahan University of Medical Sciences have found that extracts of olives and figs in honey is a healthy traditional supplementary diet for cancer patients, said Alireza Kandari, spokesman of the university’s pharmaceutical department.

A doctorial thesis by the university faculty looked into the cytotoxic effects (quality of being toxic to cells) of different solutions containing olive and fig extracts dissolved in water and honey with a density of 0.001 and 0.01 mg/ml, reports IRNA. It was found that pure honey did not show any cytotoxic effect neither did fig and olive extracts dissolved in water. However, a compound of olive extracts in honey exhibited dramatic cytotoxic effect, when exposed to 14 types of cancer cells.
