A large part of the annual drug control budget has been allocated to addiction treatment, while in the most optimistic scenario only 20% of drug addicts succeed in quitting addiction after treatment, said Seyed Hassan Mousavi Chalek, head of the Iranian Social Workers Association.

The latest statistics indicate there are 2.3 million drug addicts in the country, Khabaronline quoted him as saying.   The change in the pattern of drug use towards industrial drugs has made fighting the menace more challenging. Unlike traditional drugs like opium, industrial drugs don’t show early symptoms of addiction.
