More than seven tons of drugs were seized over the past week in 458 raids conducted by the Iran Drug Control Headquarters (IDCH) during investigations into drug trafficking and abuse across the country. In the provinces of Isfahan, Sistan-Baluchestan, Hormozgan and Kerman 2.3 tons, 1.9 tons, 0.8 tons and 0.5 tons of drugs were seized respectively, IDCH deputy Asadollah Hadi, was quoted by IRNA as saying. The largest haul was opium with 6.2 tons, followed by hashish 664 kg, heroine 82 kg, drug precursors 204 kg and crystal meth with 21 kg, he said. In all, 3,758 drug dealers were arrested and among them 2,127 were sent to rehabilitation centers. Also, 125 cars, nine motorcycles and two rifles were seized and 1,091 distributors and retailers, 934 addicts and 102 smugglers were charged, he added.
