UNESCO Chief Condoles Loss of Iranologist

Secretary General of the United Nation Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Irina Bokova condoled Iran on the passing away of renowned Iranologist Prof. Shahryar Adl.

In a message to Iran’s UNESCO Ambassador Ahmad Jalali, she expressed deep sorrow over the demise of the professor whom she praised as a very high-profile international expert. Referring to the professor’s positions in various international scientific and research circles, she said “Prof. Adl adhered to values and issues which were at the heart of UNESCO agenda,” reports IRNA.

A noted historian, Iranologist and archeologist, Adl, 71, was a scholar of Iranian-Islamic art. He passed away in France on June 21. He wrote several books including ‘Art and Society in the Iranian world’. His research work mostly focused on Iranian-Islamic art in the Safavid and Qajar eras.
