Tanning, whether one gets it on the beach or through incidental exposure, is bad news, warned head of the Iran Society of Dermatology Dr. Mohammad Golshani.
“Nearly 90% of melanomas (skin cancers) are estimated to be caused by ultraviolet (UV) exposure which is very high in a city like Tehran in summer, and people must apply sun screen at all times; such diseases are also linked with complexions and the whiter the skin, the more careful one needs to be,” he said, ISNA reported.
In addition, exposure to direct sunlight for long hours can lead to premature skin aging (wrinkles, lax skin, brown spots), as well as first and second degree burns.
