The Department of Environment (DoE) is overseeing oil pollution in sea waters. Parvin Farshidi told ISNA that the DoE’s sea environment department is making efforts to tackle oil pollution through inter-organizational collaboration. Regarding oil spills in the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea, she said “the clean-up of oil slicks is the responsibility of the Shipping Lines of the Islamic Republic of Iran.” The department oversees such efforts as well as monitors the condition of old oil pipelines, she added. Farshidi also said that to control pollution, samples are being collected from all the provinces - north and south - and now “a huge database exists which can be referred to as a legal document and as a tool for collaboration with other organizations.”
