The main drug transit trade takes place via sea routes and therefore the Persian Gulf littoral states including the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait have called for cooperation with Iran in combating drug smugglers, said Abdolreza Rahmani-Fazli, interior minister, on the sidelines of a meeting with Russian Ambassador to Iran Levan Jagaryan, on Friday. “Last year, we started a five-nation cooperation program with Russia and other Caspian littoral states in different fields, including information exchange and fighting illegal drugs. The group is scheduled to meet in Iran this year,” Khabaronline quoted him as saying.

“We are also cooperating with Afghanistan and Pakistan in the fight against drug trafficking,” he said.
