No cases of humans with avian influenza (or bird flu) have been reported in the country, said Dr. Mohammad Mehdi Gouya, director-general of Communicable Diseases at the Health Ministry’s Center for Diseases Control and Prevention. “Following the abnormal deaths of backyard chickens in one of the villages in Mazandaran Province, the Iran Veterinary Organization quarantined the poultry in the region,” he said, ISNA reported. Gouya urged people to avoid buying live poultry, the main source of spreading the disease.
