Nearly 3000 people annually lose their lives in the country as a result of drug addiction, ISNA quoted Dr. Alireza Norouzi, head of the Drug Abuse Prevention Center at the Health Ministry as saying . At present, 1.3 million people are addicted to narcotics, he said. “The most popular drugs in the country are opium, heroin and crystal meth (methamphetamine).”
Addiction rate is highest among the 15-29 age groups.
