An official at the ministry of cooperatives said all insurance booklets will be unified under one system.

Dr. Ahmad Meydari, social welfare deputy, at the conference for senior directors of Iran Health Insurance Organization (IHIO) explained the new plan for a unified insurance system and said “there are 18 insurance companies at present that offer different basic services.”

The new insurance plan will help gather all the resources under the umbrella of the IHIO and basic insurance services offered by it “to avoid scattering of services. Other insurance companies will cover additional services, as per the plan,” he said quoted by ISNA.

“We hope to collect the resources in the next calendar year, beginning March 21, 2015”, he noted.

  Targeted Groups

Low-income strata of the society are the target of basic insurance services. “The plan will not affect other clients like those who are insured for additional services. They will receive their services same as before,” Meydari stressed.

He further added that IHIO will sign agreements with the ministry of health after the insurance resources are collected. Thus the health ministry will maintain its pivotal role.

Those insured under the unified basic insurance system will be able to use public hospital services.

Meydari also said in order to have a public survey of the plan it has been uploaded on the website of the ministry of cooperatives.
